April 5, 2008 NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Cora Caulfield led the Northern Illinois women's track and field team with two victories, as the Huskies finished second at the Chicagoland Championships, Saturday. Caulfield (Fox Lake, Ill./Grant) used a 44-00.00 toss in the shot put and a 148-03.00 hurl in the discus to take home first in both events. As a team, the Huskies garnered 139.5 points, just 1.5 points behind meet winner DePaul, and well ahead of third-place finisher the University of Chicago, which scored 91.5. Senior Coretta Evans (Wheeling, Ill./Evanston Township) also picked up a win for the Huskies. In the 400-meter dash, Evans outran the competition with a 57.02 mark, a season best. A pair of sophomores also performed well. Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Cedar Rapids Prairie) notched her first outdoor high jump win with a 5.05.75 leap, while Brittany Houghton (Freeport, Ill./Dakota) bounded 18-09.25 in the long jump for a first-place finish. Houghton was also among a group of Huskies that recorded second-place finishes: Houghton jumped 37-09.50 in the triple jump, Elizabeth Berquist (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett) leapt 5-03.75 in the high jump, Meagan Guenther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) hit a 43-05.00 mark in the shot put, and Lauren Kubasiak (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) recorded a time of 1:05.57 in the 400-meter hurdles. The Huskies' 4x100 and 4x400 teams also picked up second place finishes.
