AKRON, Ohio - Senior Lorene Skipper ran in the finals of the 800-meter run, she finished in second place, the highest in NIU history with a time of 2:12.32. The women's track & field team had more athletes score in this championship than ever before. The team's tenth place finish is an improvement from last season when they finished twelfth. Freshman Jessica Statler made a name for herself in her first championships by scoring in the high jump. She finished sixth in the event with a jump of 1.69m/5-06.50. The huskies also set a school record in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:49.70 while finishing fifth in the event. Junior Stacey Rosch ran for a personal best in mile run with a time of 5:26.32. Distance runners Meghan Ginter and Denisse Valladares set personal best in the 3000-meter run for the second time this season at 10:23.64 and 10:44.85 respectively. "We made a great leap in the right direction in this year's indoor championships," said head coach Connie Teaberry. I am very proud of the way our ladies performed and the intensity that they brought to the competition. We are lookinf forward to starting the outdoor season." The huskies will not be competing week. They will be back in action at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend on March 3. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. CST. -NIU-
