KENOSHA, Wis. - The Northern Illinois women's track and field team took an easy first place at the Tadd Metzger Invitational, Saturday, racking up 197 points in the win.

"A lot of girls out there showed a lot of heart," head track and field coach Connie Teaberry said. "That was something different than last time and I'm proud of that."

The Huskies brought eight first place finishes back to DeKalb, and won every field event but the pole vault, in which they did not field a competitor.

Sophomore Brittany Houghton (Freeport, Ill./Dakota) had a stellar outing for Northern Illinois, winning both the 400-meter dash and the long jump. Her 18'02.25" leap was a personal record, while her winning time of 1:01.85 was the best she's run this season.

The other Huskie jumpers were in pure form as well. Elizabeth Berquist (Toddville, Iowa/Alburnett) earned the win in the high jump with a meet record 5'05.75" bound. Shoshanna Brown (Plainfield, Ill./Romeoville) took home a triple jump win with a mark of 35'11.25". Also in the field, Meagan Guenther (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) won both the shot put (44'04.25") and the weight throw (58'06"). Both marks were also meet records.

On the track the NIU 4x200 relay team notched a win with a time of 1:48.59 while the 4x400 troupe took first in 4:05.84.

The Huskies outscored their closest competitor by 104 points, scoring in 25 events in addition to their eight wins.

Northern Illinois continues its indoor season Feb. 15-16 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames.
