Welton's World - Entry No. 10

Jan. 30, 2008

Finally we won a game on the road! I usually have some creative introduction, or way of segueing into discussing the week's events. But after winning two games this week, I decided to get right to the point. Our win against Toledo was huge for our confidence, and proved our legitimacy in the MAC Conference.

For the first time in a rather long time, we had fun playing, and winning as a team. After the win at home against Toledo, we truly believed our renewed confidence would carry us to victory at Miami University. Two ingredients were needed to claim our first road win, team unity and a unique hotel rooming assignment. I know it sounds odd, but a number of us have come to the conclusion that when Kylie and I are roommates on the road, we win. This is not only a theory; it's a proven fact. Our only wins away from the Convocation Center have come when Kylie and me are assigned roommates. So naturally, going into the game against Miami (OH) Kylie and I had an extra air of confidence.

After we realized the game at Miami (OH) was over and we actually won, it was hard to know how to feel. We were essentially accustomed to the depressed ambiance of the visitor's locker room, and silent bus rides home. After the win began to settle in, we danced in the locker room for a bit, loaded the bus, and went for ice cream.

I would like to end this blog entry by offering a final statement to our teammates and fans. There is no need to thank Kylie and I for the road win, but you should thank Cecelia Bolles, our director of basketball operations, for having the foresight to put us in the same hotel room.

See you all at the game on Thursday!
