Malta Elementary Students Get a Kick Out of NIU Soccer Visit

NIU Men's Soccer members exchange high fives with Malta grade schoolers.

April 12, 2006

Malta, IL -- Malta Elementary School students got a "kick" out of their April 6 assembly which featured coach Steve Simmons and members of the Northern Illinois University men's soccer squad addressing the importance of core values.

In a presentation to the entire Malta grade school ranging from Pre-K to 5th grade, Simmons and his team talked about the importance of striving for excellence whether its for one's academics, community or athletics.

"It was great to see these kids light up when the players did their soccer skills demonstration," Simmons noted. "I thought they did a tremendous job of letting the youngsters know that they can have similar core values when it comes to excellence in Academics, Community and Athletics, as is the aim of the NIU Men's Soccer team."

The assembly ended with the entire Malta School student body giving "high fives" to the Huskie soccer group.
