HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Northern Illinois men's golf team completed its first two rounds at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, becoming the first Huskie squad to return to competition. NIU stands in 13th place after posting scores of 310 and 314 for a total of 624 in its first event of the spring season. Senior Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) leads the Huskie contingent after rounds of 71 and 78 for a two-round total of 149, placing him in a tie for 15th. "Zach was the bright spot for us today and really played well, especially during the morning round," said head coach John Cleary. "As a team we were rusty and just didn't play that well. We only have a couple of rounds under our belts so hopefully we will be better in tomorrow's final round." Until the Huskies took to the course Monday, no Northern Illinois athletic team had competed since the Feb. 14 campus tragedy. The final round of the tournament will be played Tuesday. -NIU-
