High School: Captain, MVP, first team All-Suburban East Conference and honorable mention all-state as senior. Named team's top offensive player and was selected as high school's Athlete of the Year during senior year. Played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, cornerback and punter during final two prep seasons. Named to Minnesota High School All-Star Game after senior campaign. Honorable mention all-conference while helping team to section championship as junior. Earned all-conference recognition in basketball and track as a senior. Named Minneapolis Star Tribune and KSTP-TV Athlete of the Week during senior basketball campaign. Helped lead hoops squad to section championship and state tournament during final prep season. Part of state tournament teams in football, basketball and track as senior. Graduated with honors.

Personal: Born May 29, 1988. Liberal arts & sciences major. Younger brother of Huskie offensive lineman Tony Holmes. Son of Gary and Karron Holmes. Father, Gary Holmes, played basketball at Minnesota and was co-captain of the 1981-82 Big Ten Championship team before being drafted by the Detroit Pistons.
