2006: Scripps Freshman All-America honoree by the Football Writers Association of America. Honorable Mention Freshman All-America by The Sporting News. Started all 12 games played at center, including Poinsettia Bowl. Anchored line that produced MAC's second-ranked rushing and total offense and third-best scoring attack. Totaled 43 knockdown blocks and ranked second on team with 10 flatbacks. Graded out at 86 percent or better in all games and had four or more knockdown blocks in six contests. Recorded 91 percent grade and had six knockdown blocks in collegiate debut at Ohio State (9-2). Graded at 94 percent and racked up six knockdowns and three flatbacks against Buffalo (9-16). Totaled eight knockdowns and four flatbacks at Ball State (9-30). Recorded season-high 95 percent grade and five knockdowns at Eastern Michigan (11-24).


2005: Redshirted.

High School: Consensus all-state selection, listed among "Five to Watch" in 2005 class by Daily Herald and called "one of the best in the area" by Chicago Sun-Times. Named team captain and Most Valuable Offensive Lineman, first team All-East Suburban Catholic Conference, Special Mention Chicago Sun-Times All-Area, first team Daily Herald Lake County All-Area, special mention Champaign News-Gazette All-State, special mention Chicago Tribune All-State, and First-Team Illinois High School Football Coaches Association All-State on Class 6A state playoff qualifier as a senior. Tabbed on preseason Chicago Sun-Times Top 100 Area Player and Chicago Tribune league Player to Watch lists entering senior year. Recorded 27 tackles and one fumble recovery as defensive tackle and played offensive guard and long snapper in final season. Starting center helped lead 4,000-yard rushing attack on 14-0 Class 6A state champion as a junior. Two-time football letterwinner.
