Eastern Michigan's Early Run Leads To 82-63 Win Over NIU Men's Hoops

Ypsilanti, Mich. - Eastern Michigan rolled out to an early 27-6 lead, behind seven three-pointers, and never looked back as the host Eagles earned the 82-63 Mid-American Conference victory over the Northern Illinois University men's basketball team at the Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon.

 

EMU point guard Carlos Medlock led all scorers with 23 points, while sophomore forward Justin Dobbins came off the bench and tallied 20 points. EMU guard Jesse Bunkley chipped in 11 points, while backcourt mate Jarred Axon added 10 in the victory.

 

Medlock and Bunkley each converted three trifectas on the afternoon, helping the Eagles shoot 50.0% (9-for-18) from beyond the arc. As a team, EMU shot 46.2% (24-for-52), while the Huskies knocked down 42.4% (25-for-59) of their attempts.

 

With the victory, Eastern Michigan moves to 13-16 overall and 8-8 in MAC play, while the Huskies fall to 6-21 on the season and 3-12 in conference action.

 

NIU senior forward Shaun Logan (Eldridge, Iowa/North Scott/Kirkwood C.C.) tied a season-high with 20 points, followed by 12 points from freshman guard Darion Anderson (Chicago, Ill./Carver Military Academy) and 10 points from junior forward Sean Smith (Gary, Ind./Westside/Vincennes J.C.).

 

Northern Illinois receives the No. 11 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament and will square off with No. 6 seed Central Michigan on Wednesday (March 12) at 2 p.m. (CST) at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
