Out in Left Field - Entry 10

May 19, 2008

Senior Jeff Thomas will be blogging throughout the season about his experiences as a member of the Huskie baseball team. The outfielder from Loves Park, Ill., leads the team in hitting and is in his third season as the starting leftfielder. Thomas' latest posting talks about playing his final home game and the Senior Day festivities last Saturday vs. Western Michigan at Ralph McKinzie Field.

Senior Day

You always want to go out on top when you know that it is your last time doing something. I was very fortunate to be put in that situation last Saturday on senior day. The day was almost perfect in that everything that I would have wanted to happen, happened. I'm not going to lie, I am going to miss playing at the Ralph.

The day started off early at the camp that we held for the local Little League baseball teams. I had a lot of fun playing with the little guys, doing outfield drills and hanging out with them. I was happy to be able to pass on some of my knowledge to the Little Leaguers, or at least show them a good time on the field.

After the camp was over, just walking onto the field was a bit different. I felt a little bit more calm and confident than I usually do. The wind was blowing out, which meant it was going to be a good day for the hitters. I ended up having a good day at the plate and continued to have a lot of fun for my last home game, along with getting the "W".

The final regular season series was big for us as a team with getting two wins over Western Michigan. We gained some momentum going into the MAC Tournament this week, always a good thing to have on your side. I hope we run with this momentum through the entire tournament and take it into every game we play.

Until next time ...
