Out in Left Field - Entry 7

April 15, 2008

Senior Jeff Thomas will be blogging throughout the season about his experiences as a member of the Huskie baseball team. The outfielder from Loves Park, Ill., currently leads the team in hitting and is in his third season as the starting leftfielder. Thomas' latest posting talks about sweeping Akron last weekend and getting ready to face Notre Dame at U.S. Cellular Field.

Last weekend's series against Akron was a true mental test for us as a team. The weather was chilly and the team we played was feisty. Every game of the series went back and forth or we had to make a come back (we won 5-4, 14-11, and 14-10). For me, those types of games are fun to play in, especially when we come out as the victor. Getting a sweep over Akron is a great step for us in MAC play because sweeps don't come too often and we've accomplished two this year so far.

Now we turn our attention to Wednesday night's game at U.S. Cellular Field.

When you hear you are going to play at the ball park of your favorite team (the White Sox), what are you supposed to say or do? I am going to choose the "cool guy" route and take it as it is, meaning I'm going to take in all the excitement and let it out in the game.

Another great thing to hear is that we're actually going to have some good baseball weather to play in. There is not a better feeling knowing that you are going to be playing in good baseball weather in front of a lot of people in the city.

I am excited about being on the field Wednesday night. Words just can't explain the feeling that I have about this game.

We hope to see as many Huskie fans at "The Cell" as possible!

Until next time...
JT
