DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University has cancelled all of its athletics competitions - both home and away - scheduled for this weekend, Huskie Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Phillips announced Thursday. The announcement comes in the wake of Thursday's tragic events on the NIU campus in DeKalb.

The cancellations include two home Mid-American Conference basketball games in the NIU Convocation Center - a women's basketball contest versus Ohio scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. and the men's basketball game versus Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m.

In addition, NIU's women's track and field, women's gymnastics, men's and women's tennis, wrestling and men's golf teams will not travel to away competitions this weekend. The Northern Illinois football team will not hold its planned "Junior Day" this Sunday.
